Designer ABC's "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition"
Tracy Hutson has been a stylist and designer since 1999, when she started her own Los Angeles-based design business. In 2003 she became part of the design team on “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.” Through her involvement with the show, Hutson has witnessed first-hand the dramatic impact that living spaces have on the lives of the people who occupy them. Every episode stimulates her naturally philanthropic spirit, and she responds to each family’s needs with compassion and enthusiasm. Given her particular zeal for designing children’s spaces, she lovingly customizes rooms for the younger family members, adding personal touches that consistently enthrall and enchant. During Season Two of the show, Hutson discovered she was expecting a child of her own. She gave birth to Oliver in May 2005, an event that would change her career and knowledge of design in inspiring ways. Oliver and mom hit the road for their first season designing together, traveling to help families in need, the presence of her son adding a new dimension to Hutson’s work and expanding her love of designing spaces for little ones.
In 2007 Hutson found out she was expecting for the second time. She wanted to create a space for her new baby and Oliver that was not only environmentally safe but also fun and enjoyable for her little ones. After the birth of Felix, designing green spaces became her passion. Even with her growing family, she found time to complete her first book combining her love for designing nurseries and her commitment to the environment. Feathering the Nest: Tracy Hutson’s Eco-friendly Guide to Decorating Your Baby’s Room shows families how easy and rewarding it can be to create a green nursery for their babies. Her style can also be found in homes across the U.S. with her QVC home accessory line.
Hutson is enjoying juggling motherhood and many upcoming projects. Her work on “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” has been a profound learning experience and she feels it is an honor to help these deserving families in need. It is something she holds very close to her heart.
