ABC News' "This Week with George Stephanopoulos" was #1 among the key Adult 25-54 demographic on Sunday, September 21, 2008, outperforming NBC's "Meet the Press, "according to Nielsen Media Research. This is the third time this season that "This Week" placed first among Adults 25-54. Additionally, "This Week" posted 3.08 million Total Viewers, cutting the total viewing gap with NBC by 32% compared to last year. "This Week" also grew 53% among Adults 25-54 and 26% among Total Viewers versus last year.
Additionally, for the 2007/008 season "This Week" placed second, outperforming CBS' "Face the Nation" among Total Viewers and the key Adult 25-54 demographic. This marks the program's first second-place finish since Stephanopoulos began as anchor in September 2002 and its first second-place finish among both Total Viewers and A25-54 in seven years (since the 2000/2001 season).
"This Week" also grew among both Total Viewers and Adults 25-54 compared to last season. In the demo "This Week" increased 9%, and among Total Viewers it grew 6%. By comparison, CBS' "Face the Nation" declined among both Total Viewers and A25-54 versus the 2006/2007 season.
"This Week" also posted its best 3rd Quarter delivery in seven years. Compared to the 2007 3rd quarter, "This Week" posted double-digit growth, increasing 20% among A25-54 and 15% among Total Viewers. The program placed second, again outperforming CBS' "Face the Nation" among Total Viewers and Adults 25-54.
*On Sunday, September 28, "This Week" will hold a live town-hall meeting with Republican presidential nominee Senator John McCain (R-AZ), just 37 days before the election. The broadcast will take place in Columbus, OH and will be moderated by Mr. Stephanopoulos.
