ABC NEWS HONORED WITH FOUR NEWS EMMY AWARDS
Fifth Award for "Where Things Stand" Series
ABC News received four Emmy Awards from the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, presented last night at the 29th Annual News and Documentary Awards in New York City.

"World News with Charles Gibson" won two Emmy Awards, including Best Story in a Regularly Scheduled Newscast for the fifth installment of "Iraq: Where Things Stand." Reporting for the ongoing series, which periodically assesses how the people of Iraq and the country are faring, took correspondent Terry McCarthy and ABC staffers to more than two dozen cities and towns across Iraq. The report also featured results from an exclusive, national public opinion poll of more than 2,000 Iraqis. This marks the fifth Emmy Award the "Iraq: Where Things Stand" series has received since first airing in November 2003.

"World News" was also recognized for Outstanding Coverage of a Breaking News Story in a Regularly Scheduled Newscast for "California Burning," which documented the devastating wildfires that destroyed large swathes of the state last year. On the first day of this major story, anchor Charles Gibson reported from San Diego and was joined by correspondents Laura Marquez, Ryan Owens and Mike Von Fremd from various fire zones. Additionally, "20/20" won Outstanding Live Coverage of a Breaking News Story - Long Form for its hour report of the California wildfires. Anchored by Charles Gibson, the special featured reports from ABC News Correspondents Jim Avila, JuJu Chang, Chris Connelly, Chris Cuomo, David Muir, Deborah Roberts and Mike Von Fremd.

In addition, "20/20" won the Outstanding Feature Story in a News Magazine Emmy for "Waiting on the World to Change," a first-hand account of poverty among children in America reported by Diane Sawyer. The year-long reporting followed the lives of children in one of the poorest cities in America who struggle daily to succeed despite horrendous odds.
