    Matt Gutman is an ABC News correspondent based in Miami. He reports for all ABC News broadcasts and platforms, including "World News with Diane Sawyer," "Nightline" and "Good Morning America," as well as ABC News Radio, ABC News NOW and ABCNews.com.

    Gutman made headlines as part of the ABC News team covering the Gulf oil spill, breaking stories on BP's efforts to plug the well, the economic and environmental devastation wrought by the spill, and BP's muzzling of the media.

    Before taking over as the Miami correspondent, Gutman was a correspondent for ABC News Radio based in Miami. During that time he covered the 2008 elections, the earthquake in Haiti, the Tiger Woods saga, and anchored shuttle launches for the network.

    Gutman arrived in Miami from Jerusalem, where he was the ABC News Radio correspondent for two years. In 2006 he reported on the Israel Lebanon war, reporting from both sides of the shell pocked border. He has traveled to Afghanistan several times covering U.S. offensives against the Taliban and the U.S. surge in the Taliban-controlled South. Gutman also spent a month in Beijing for the historic 2008 Olympics.

    Before joining ABC News Radio, Gutman was a Jerusalem-based reporter for various publications, including the Jerusalem Post and USA Today. In 2002, during the peak of the Intifada -- the Palestinian uprising -- he embedded himself with Palestinians and settlers in the West Bank. When the Iraq War broke out in 2003, he traveled to Baghdad and reported on the looting immediately following the U.S. invasion. He visited the notorious Abu Ghraib prison and reported on the first attack on U.S. troops there. He was in Iraq in December 2003 when Saddam Hussein was captured, having learned the news from a shepherd who'd watched it on al Jazeera. In 2004 he drove through Sunni Triangle the day after four U.S. contractors were hanged there, triggering the first major post-invasion assault.

    In 2000-01, Gutman spent a year traveling and freelancing through Latin America and Africa. His first published article appeared in the Buenos Aires Herald in 2000.

    Gutman was raised in Westfield, New Jersey. He is a graduate of Williams College in Massachusetts.
