
JOHN AMOS
Buzz Washington on the ABC Television Network's "MEN IN TREES"
A native of New Jersey, John Amos is best known for the role of James Evans in the hit CBS sitcom "Good Times." His other initial hit television roles include Gordy, the Weatherman on "The Mary Tyler Moore Show," and Kunta Kinte on the legendary CBS miniseries "Roots." Amos guest starred on NBC's "Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Fox's "Martin," and "In the House" with LL Cool J. His notable film roles include Major in "Die Hard 2: Die Harder" with Bruce Willis. He co-starred as Denzel Washington's father in the successful box office motion picture "Ricochet."
As a writer and artist, Amos conceived and wrote "Halley's Comet," his critically acclaimed one-man show, opening at the American Stage Company to exceptional reviews and sold out houses. The show has toured in over 480 cities throughout the United States and abroad, receiving standing ovations from Washington, DC to Bermuda, from California to New York City and from London, England to the Bahamas.
Amos continues to star in one hit after another. He starred for five seasons on NBC'S Emmy Award-winning series, "The West Wing," as Admiral Percy Fitzwallace, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. In Spring 2005, he starred in the role of Dutch, an ex-convict biker, in the independent feature "Voodoo Moon," and with Kyla Pratt in Fox Motion Pictures' "Dr. Dolittle 3," starring as Jed Jones, Country Western rancher.
Amos received the TVLand Impact Awards in both 2006 and 2007. Recently he was honored with the Roots Award of Excellence for his outstanding portrayal of positive role models in TV and Film by the Governor of Michigan at the First Annual Roots Awards in Detroit.
Off the stage, Amos is known for his grass roots philanthropic work with youth worldwide. He implements a revolutionary children's mentorship program, Kidsail to Success, through his popular John Amos' Halley's Comet Foundation. The foundation partners with the U.S. Coast Guard and the Boys and Girls Club of America, using the art of sailing as a tool to inspire principles of success in education, individual development and team spirit, bringing hope to children around the world
Amos just signed a five-record recording deal with the legendary Gene Cash, CEO of Music Row Records Nashville. Cash plans to feature Trace Adkins, Charlie Daniels and other country greats on Amos' first album, which is scheduled to be released in the fall of 2007. Amos plans to use this project as a fundraising vehicle for The John Amos Halley's Comet Foundation (www.thehalleyscometfoundation.org).
