JOHN SAUNDERS
ABC Sports Commentator John Saunders, one of the most accomplished studio hosts in sports television, anchors ABC's college football scoreboard show and ABC's college basketball studio show, and has been working for the ABC Television Network since 1990. In addition he serves as the host of "ESPN The Magazine's Sports Reporters". Saunders has received critical acclaim for his work in the studio for both ABC Sports and ESPN. He previously worked for ABC Sports during the 1990-91 college basketball season, and has been the studio host for ESPN's coverage of Major League baseball, college basketball and football. Saunders joined ESPN in December of 1986 as "SportsCenter" anchor. He came to ESPN from WMAR-TV in Baltimore, where he worked since 1982 as an anchor of three daily sports reports. A native Canadian, Saunders was the main sports anchor for City-TV in Toronto, from 1980-82. He also served as sports anchor at ATV News in New Brunswick (1979-80) and CKNY-TV in Ontario (1978-79). In 1978 he was the news director for CKNS Radio in Espanola, Ontario. Saunders, an all-star defenseman in the Montreal junior leagues, received a scholarship and played hockey at Western Michigan University from 1974-76. He resides in New York, with his wife, Wanda, and their two children. |
