CRAIG JAMES
College football studio analyst Standout college and professional football running back and veteran analyst Craig James joined John Saunders and Terry Bowden as an analyst for ABC Sports' college football studio show from Times Square Stadium in September 2003. From 1996-2002, James worked for CBS Sports in a variety of roles. He was an NFL game analyst and a studio analyst on "College Football Today," "NFL Today" and the college basketball halftime studio show. He also served as a reporter for the network's coverage of the NCAA Men's Basketball Championship and on the bobsled and luge competitions during the 1998 Olympic Winter Games. From 1991 through 1996 James was at ESPN, where he served as a studio analyst on the "College Gameday" and "College Football Scoreboard" programs. Prior to his first ESPN stint, James was the weekday sports anchor KDFW, the Fox affiliate in Dallas/Fort Worth, from 1992-1993. He served as a sportscaster at KRLD-AM in Dallas from 1991-1993, where he hosted "Sports Central" and covered the Dallas Cowboys. James teamed in the backfield at SMU with former ABC commentator Eric Dickerson to form the famed "Pony Express." He was on the First Team All-Southwest Conference from 1980-83, and played for the USFL's Washington Federals (1983-84) and NFL's New England Patriots (1984-88). With New England, James was NFL Rookie of the Year in 1984, when he rushed for 790 yards, and was voted New England's "Most Valuable Player" and NFL "Offensive Player of the Year" by The Vince Lombardi Committee in 1985, when he rushed for 1,227 yards and five touchdowns. James was a starter in the 1986 Pro Bowl and Super Bowl XX. James, a native of Jacksonville, Texas, graduated from SMU in 1983 with a liberal arts degree, after studying history and business. |
