Jack Arute, one of the top college football sideline and auto racing reporters in the industry, joined ABC Sports in 1984. He has covered college football and motorsports events for the network since he made his debut on "ABC's Wide World of Sports'" live telecast of the National Championship Sprint Car Racing (in April 1984). He has also covered the U.S. Grand Prix Motocross Championships for "Wide World" and the Grand Prix of Monaco, has served as a pit reporter on ABC Sports' Indianapolis 500 broadcast team, and has been both a booth analyst and lead pit reporter for Indy Racing Leage coverage. In addition Arute has covered the networks's NASCAR Winston Cup and the International Race of Champions (IROC).

Arute served as a reporter for ABC Sports' coverage of cycling, tennis and soccer during the Pan American Games, and for Super Bowl pre-game coverage and the Tournament of Roses Parade. He also hosted the Luge World Championships from Altenburg, Germany, for "Wide World."

In addition to his duties for ABC, Arute works auto racing and special events for ESPN. He hosted ESPN'S coverage of Street Luge during the Summer X-Games, Super Modified Shovel Racing and Downhill Mountain Biking on ESPN's Winter X-Games coverage, and Timber and Dog events on the cable network's "Great Outdoor Games." He also hosts a variety of shows on ESPN Radio.

Arute is a four-time recipient of the American Auto Racing Writers and Broadcasters Association Award for Television, including AARWBA's 2001 award for Best Radio and Best Television Presentation. He has been similarly cited for his TV work by the National Motorsports Press Association, and received its Broadcaster of the Year Award in 1988.

In his spare time, Arute competes in sprint car races, as well as serving as president of his family's NASCAR racetrack, the Stafford (Connecticut) Motor Speedway. The veteran broadcaster and his wife, Wendy, reside in Suffield, Connecticut.
