GEOFF MORRELL Geoff Morrell is a White House correspondent based in the network's Washington, DC bureau. He began covering President Bush for the weekend editions of "World News Tonight" and "Good Morning America" in April 2003. In that role, he traveled extensively with the President, reporting on how Mr. Bush's policies affected the American people. In 2004 Mr. Morrell spent months in ABC's Jerusalem Bureau covering Yassir Arafat's death, the new Palestinian government and the Israeli debate over withdrawing from the Gaza Strip. He joined ABC in 2000 as a Chicago-based correspondent for NewsOne, the network's affiliate news service. He traveled the country and the world covering the 2000 presidential campaign, the Florida recount, the September 11th attack on the World Trade Center, the anthrax attacks on the U.S. Capitol, Timothy McVeigh's execution, the Enron accounting scandal, the Washington, DC sniper shootings, the Pope's trip to Toronto, numerous natural disasters and the War with Iraq. He spent six weeks in Doha, Qatar covering the war from Central Command. Mr. Morrell began his reporting career with KATV, the ABC News affiliate in Little Rock, Arkansas, where he covered Bill Clinton's presidential campaign, his transition into the White House and the first year of President Clinton's administration. In 1994 Mr. Morrell reported for the ABC affiliate in Lynchburg-Roanoke, Virginia, WSET, covering Oliver North's race for the U.S. Senate. He joined KSAZ, the Fox-owned station in Phoenix, Arizona in 1995. One year later he moved to Chicago to report for WBBM-TV, the CBS-owned station. Mr. Morrell graduated with a B.A. in government from Georgetown University in 1991. In 1992 he received a M.S. from Columbia University's Graduate School of Journalism. While in graduate school, he worked as a desk assistant, production assistant and researcher for ABC News in New York. He began his journalism career with ABC news as an intern in the Washington bureau in 1990. Mr. Morrell and his wife, Ann, live in Washington, DC, where he was born and raised. |
