LIZ MARLANTES Liz Marlantes is a congressional correspondent for ABC News based in the network's Washington, DC bureau. She joined ABC News in February 2005 as a general assignment correspondent. Her recent reports include the heated immigration debate, the Dubai Ports controversy and the Samuel A. Alito confirmation hearings. Prior to joining ABC News, Ms. Marlantes was a national political reporter for The Christian Science Monitor. As the lead reporter covering the 2004 presidential election, she spent time with both President George Bush and Senator John Kerry on and off the campaign trail. She filed stories from numerous battleground states and profiled several Democratic candidates during the primaries. Ms. Marlantes began her career at The Christian Science Monitor in 1999 as a general assignment reporter and editor on the national news desk in Boston. She covered a number of national news stories, including the aftermath of the 9/11 attacks and the post-9/11 anthrax scare. She received a 2004 National Headliner Award for a series of articles on Americans' attitudes in the run-up to the Iraq war. During her print career, Ms. Marlantes was a frequent commentator on various news programs, including ABC News' "This Week with George Stephanopoulos" and "Nightline," "The McLaughlin Group," "The Chris Matthews Show," and CNN's "Inside Politics" and "Wolf Blitzer Reports." A native New Yorker, Ms. Marlantes is a graduate of Harvard University, where she studied American history and literature. She received a master's degree in English literature from Oxford University in England. |
