ELISABETH LEAMY Elisabeth Leamy was named consumer correspondent of ABC News' "Good Morning America" in June of 2005 with the mission of investigating wrongs and educating viewers on their rights. Since joining "Good Morning America," Ms. Leamy has reported on and investigated a wide-range of topics for the morning program, including a recent dynamic report on the dangers of leaving children in hot cars, for which she locked herself in a car to demonstrate how fast body temperature can rise and how tragically children can die when in a hot car for an extended period. Prior to "Good Morning America," Ms. Leamy was the senior investigative reporter and consumer reporter for WTTG-TV Fox 5 in Washington, DC. From 1994-97 she was the consumer correspondent at WFLA-TV in Tampa, Florida. At both stations she covered a range of consumer stories, some of which resulted in new city laws and prompted Congressional inquiries. Ms. Leamy began her career in broadcast journalism in 1992 in Bakersfield, California as a weekend anchor and general assignment reporter. She published her first book, "The Savvy Consumer: How to Avoid Scams and Rip-offs that Cost You Time and Money" in April of 2004. Ms. Leamy is the recipient of 13 Emmy Awards and four regional Edward R. Murrow Awards. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of California, Berkley, and holds a Master's in journalism from Northwestern University's Medill School of Journalism. Ms. Leamy resides in Washington, DC with her husband, Kris, and dog Buddah.
