JON BANNER Jon Banner is the executive producer of "ABC's World News with Charles Gibson," a role he has held since June 2003. In this position he is responsible for the editorial content and production of the network's flagship broadcast. Under Mr. Banner's leadership, "World News'" reach has expanded to include a live daily webcast. During Mr. Banner's tenure, "ABC's World News Tonight" has won the Edward R. Murrow Award for best newscast for two consecutive years, in 2004 and 2005. In 2005 the broadcast was also recognized with three News Emmy Awards, more than any other evening newscast. Prior to his current position, Mr. Banner served as executive producer of the ABC News Sunday morning program, "This Week with George Stephanopoulos." He has also held a number of senior editorial positions with the Network, including as a senior producer of "ABC's World News Tonight with Peter Jennings." In that capacity he was second in command to the executive producer and oversaw White House and political coverage. From 1999-2000 he was the senior producer in charge of the "Good Morning America" news segments. Prior to that he was a senior producer with "ABC's World News Tonight Saturday and Sunday," from 1997-1999. Mr. Banner was the producer in charge of the ABC News Dallas bureau from 1995-1999. During that time he covered the Oklahoma City bombing, the federal investigation that followed, and the trials of Timothy McVeigh and Terry Nichols. He also covered the political campaigns of Steve Forbes and Senator Bob Dole. While based in the Atlanta bureau from 1994-95, he spent four months in Haiti covering the U.S. intervention there, for which he received a duPont Award. Mr. Banner spent four years in the Washington bureau of ABC News, from 1989-1993. He was an operations producer for "This Week with David Brinkley," where he coordinated several road shows during the 1992 presidential campaign, as well as an associate producer for "ABC's World News Tonight with Peter Jennings." He began his career in 1989 as a desk assistant for "World News Tonight" in New York. Mr. Banner was a member of the ABC News team recognized with the 2001 Peabody Award for the network's coverage of the events of September 11. He is also the recipient of two Emmy Awards. A native of Hastings-on-Hudson, NY, Mr. Banner is a graduate of Boston University. He and his wife have two daughters. |
